A seeker goes to a Master and asks,
Seeker: “I need to know the ways of controlling the mind.”
Master replies: “It is a play of winning and losing.”
Seeker: “Winning and losing? But I want to control it.”
Master laughs out loud and suddenly slaps the seeker. This outrages the seeker.
Seeker: “Why did you slap me? You are rude. You are bad.” Then he rattled out many similar abuses. Master raised his hand as if to silence the seeker and said:
“You lost the game when I diverted your attention by the slap. Its pain that created more activities in the mind and from a seeker you became an abuser. Your mask of humility just melted away showing your true form. Mind cannot be controlled it but it can be either won or lost. It is a game between you and the mind. You may add a layer of humility but then it is like putting on a cosmetic layer on a wrinkled face.”
Tears ran down the cheeks of the seeker and silently knelt down.
Master then said : “Now this is the place where you have won the game, you have seen the true mind of yours so it subsided. In normal conditions, focus of thy mind should be pure and it should have the clarity within, then the mind remains quiet. Till the time you are not able to see the nature of mind or your own clarity and if total focus is lacking, then the mind will keep on winning the game.
